How do I send my "Facebook Address" to my contacts???
As most of you know, I love to Google things. And then I have my FeedDemon/Newsgator sending me stuff by topic automatically. So, I LOVE to research things and love finding answers.
Well a friend who had created a Facebook Group asked how to send the notice of the group to his connections who were in his Microsoft Outlook address book.
This seems like it would be a pretty common request since many of us who are in our second half of life have Friends on Facebook, but many friends who not yet are.
So, I have researched it and found one great article by a very nice Techie guy Dave Taylor who explained the "walled garden" of Facebook which is not easily viewed by people "outside" the garden….and then explains the details of how to get your external Facebook address to send to people.
If you are somewhat techie, here is the link to Dave's article : http://www.askdavetaylor.com/external_facebook_links_invite_friends_connect.html
If you are NOT techie, here is Barb's step by step.
1) Open the email in Outlook (or whatever mail program you use on our PC..yes this should include Macs
)
2) Leave the new email there ready to go and separately log in to Facebook.
3) To get the web address for your personal profile,
4) Click on home (if you are not already there)
5) Click on YOUR picture.
6) Highlight/select the entire web address (URL) your browser address line at the top of your page.
7) Select "copy" out of your edit menu.
8) Go to your open email (from step 1) and click in the body of the email.
9) select "paste" from your "edit" menu
10) hit the "enter" (or "return") key on your computer keyboard. (this should turn your web address into an active web link). (If this does not make it a link, you can "right click" on the web address in your email and select the "hyperlink" option from the right click menu options)
11) Type your note above or below the address in your email and send your email out.
If you want to practice this on yourself, send your email to yourself, then LOGOUT of Facebook. Then click on the link in your email and you will see a little bit about your Facebook presence and an invitation to join Facebook to "befriend" you!
So, back to my friend with a Group….or if you have page.…
Here are the modifications to grab those links to send out:
Log in to Facebook. Get to your Group or Page (type the name in the "search" field at the upper right)….you should see your Group or Page name appear in the list of options….select it.
You should now see your group page. Select the web address (URL) from your browser address window at the top of the page, copy it, and paste it into your email….and hit "enter" just as you did before.
You will note that when you go to the page via the link, the webaddress may appear in a shorter form…..this is OK….just a shorter name for the same location. If I knew where I could instruct you also to pick it up, I would…..Here I am just working to get you the simplest instructions we can to make it EASY!!!
I hope this helps…..another Facebook mystery solved…..and more feedback for them…this SHOULD be easy if one were interested in keeping the most used Social Networking tool as the most used Social Networking tool!!!
Have a great day!
