AND…then of course this one:
FROM: CONGRATULATIONS WINNER !!! [swissilees@mail.com]
SUBJECT: CONGRATULATIONS WINNER !!! / Call Your Agent When Receive
..telling me my email address was a WINNER and all I need to do is send back to them my name address, phone number, age, marital status…etc……just enough information for someone to attempt identity theft….
I have read…and have personally noticed that in these toughening economic times, more scam artists than ever are out trying to find ways to steal our identity and what money we have left.
If you have good virus catching/email screening software on your computer, hopefully most of these weird emails are sitting in your "Junk Email" box….already screened by your system.
I know that most of us know to ignore and delete these emails….however, they are getting more creative. Most either ask for our personal information or ask us to click on a link. Don't do either.
You may get something that looks like…just maybe…it might be from your bank or from the IRS…etc. If you want to check these out, what I do is to pull out my bank information….either the phone number on the back of your credit/debit card or information from your bank statements. Just call them directly and ask them. Then, if it is a scam, your bank will appreciate hearing from you so that they can investigate it from their end.
If you get an email from an agency like the IRS, again, do not reply to the email. Talk to whomever does your taxes….or if that is you, you either know how to reach the IRS website directly or know how to call them directly.
And one other suggestion….do check your "Junk" email box periodically…..not for these scammy emails…but sometimes as our computer software works to protect us, they file emails from people YOU do know there. If this happens, remember to classify this sender as a "safe sender" on your email system to train your computer for the next email from them.
Have a great day and safe "webbing"
