Lessons on living the good life!
Well here we are, living in the lazy hazy days of summer…..and I am living the good life! I was watering the flowers in my delightful little courtyard garden as I said this early this morning. Then I stopped and asked myself…."what exactly is the Good Life?" What does it mean to me today? After the scare a month ago with my husband's heart health issue, I realize that my definition of what the good life means to me today is definitely different than it was the day before the ambulance rushed him into the hospital fighting for his breath. This is the first time I have had such a HUGE spike in my own heightened awareness of living in the moment -in a very real and dramatic way! My friend and also mentor, RIchard Leider, writes about these experiences as the "triggers", that get us to slow down very quickly and start asking ourselves different questions-particularly in the second half of our lives!
So I am going to explore this as a theme in my reflections over the next few weeks, especially as the sensuous days of summer wind their way through our lives-more time for these "pondering the possibilities" reflective moments. Many of you know that plans are underway to launch our new primetime.tv network and welcome your input as to guests you would like to see interviewed on our network discussing second half of life issues. Please let us know.
Our desire is to start the conversations about "exploring the good life" in our second half of life.
We are all about creating dialogue not a monologue!
I googled this theme and found a quote that Mother Theresa had pinned to her children's wall in Calcutta, so thought this would be a good way to start "pondering the possibilities" of what the Good Life is really all about!
Keep smiling and go play in the sunshine.
Elizabeth
Lessons from Mother Theresa
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
